CNC Machining of a Steel Chain Hoist Drum for Power Utility

We were recently contracted by a utility customer to custom machine the chain hoist drum highlighted here. It was designed to hoist a floodgate for their Wishon dam facility, and exemplifies our ability to precision machine large components with quick turnaround times. Silicon Valley Precision was contracted to perform all of the required work, utilizing our cutting edge 4 axis Awea VP2012 machining center and rotary table to perform the CNC milling. The drum is composed of 4140 steel round stock with finished dimensions of 36″ in length and an outer diameter of 14″. This part was machined using the 4th axis to produce the helix and using the 3 axis motion to ball mill the cross section of the helical groove. This part was produced to a Tolerance of +-.003″

This drum hoist was ordered on a Friday and was delivered the following Monday a 3 day turnaround. Silicon Valley Precision is committed to high quality precision CNC machining, with rapid turnaround times. For more about this chain hoist drum machining project, or our other value added horizontal and vertical machining capabilities, please see the table below or contact us directly.
